  •     Some guy in the Netherlands believes that in the near future robots will become so lifelike that humans may end up falling in love and marrying them. I don’t find that to be a very attractive forecast, but not because of the unnaturalness of robot love. I’m more turned off by the human that would have to resort to artificial intelligence for affection: the online-video game obsessed, socially-inept, Jabba-the-Huts who know everything there is to know about elves and orcs but couldn’t find their way out of a paper bag. Mr. Netherlands knows what I’m talking about; he even said that those “who find it hard to form relationships, because they are extremely shy, or have psychological problems, or are just plain ugly or have unpleasant personalities,” would benefit most from getting down with a robot.

I’m not taking this guy’s prediction seriously, but if we were ever capable of creating such realistic robots that people wouldn’t look like sexual deviants if they were seen in public with their robot-lover, I’d still have to pass on it. Sure, I could buy a robot boyfriend who was extremely hot and program him so that we’d have the same interests, beliefs, level of intelligence, etc., but I don’t find any of that appealing at all. It just sounds boring. And although I prefer people to support me when I say that I am so perfect that I poop gems and my farts can cure diseases–I appreciate it when someone tells me to my face that he disagrees with me and why. And if he can actually convince me that I’m wrong and put me in my place then he’s automatically way more attractive than some robot. Having an opposing point of view every now and then can be quite beneficial–but don’t try to convince me that the key to world peace isn’t a McDonald’s Happy Meal because I’ll just cut you.

Besides, women don’t want to have to ask for compliments–we want men to say things because they mean it. Can you imagine the dialogue in a robot-woman relationship?

    ROBOT MAN: I love you.

HUMAN WOMAN: No, you don’t. You’re just saying that because I programmed you to. You don’t love me at all!

ROBOT MAN: Yes, I do. And you don’t look fat in those jeans.

    HUMAN WOMAN: Liar!

And then the robot self-destructs because that’s what it was programmed to do when the human woman decides to end the relationship.

       More downsides to robot-human love:

    1. Whatever gift your robot gives you will probably have been purchased using your money–because your robot doesn’t have a job (working is reserved for labor robots).

    2. People who program their robots to compliment them will eventually stop caring about their hygiene and appearance because their robot lovers have turned into their robot enablers by consistently telling their human “you are sexy” when it should be saying “you are a sow.”

    3. Ever seen “The Matrix”? Robots want to look like octopi, not humans, and are going to punish us by throwing us all into pods of goo. What’s worse is that the savior is going to turn out to be some loser like Keanu Reeves. Hell to the no.

The only robot I would want around me is a slave robot. Yes, I would want an entourage of attractive, male robots who do nothing but cook and clean and whatever else slaves should do. And they should also have weapon-limbs so that they can protect me…oh, and also sneeze candy. Now that would be a kick a** robot.

  • LOL, I would pass on the whole robot-lover deal too..

  • you should write more often — i like reading ur shit.

but, i’m all for the robot lover.  unfortunately, i think i was born one generation too early.  man, robots — so ur telling me i can get a hot woman who will not bitch, moan, whine, and be all high-maintenance on my ass AND i get to sleep with her and contract no STDs??!?

    SIGN ME UP!!!

  • I think it would be creepy having a robot lover. Ugh.

  • eek i totally agree with you. what the heck is attractive about that? i’d take a man over a robot anyday. but for some reason i think that men don’t share the same viewpoint…

  • lol – amazing. Your robot to woman to robot dialogue was very entertaining. I wouldn’t mind a robot butler…although an entourage of robot slaves/guards would be neat too.

  • Random props

lol.. Your fantasy really is something.. lol..

It’s like saying, I want to drive, but I don’t want a automobile.. lol..

On a deeper note, usually when you find your soul-mate, everything you’ve ever wanted emotional wise, will come true!

  • Narcissism fused with technology. It’s gonna happen. JMO

  • Mwuah ha ha ha!!

    “Hell to the no.”

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t happen because how many things have people said would never happen, about things with technology, and it did. I just see it becoming a problem. But… we do have blow up dolls to pass the time for now. lol. Fight for robot’s rights!! ha ha. Yeah, you know you will hear that one if it ever happens. I’ve actually been joking about this ever since I heard it.

  • Yea, I heard that on the news and thought, “what has this world come to?” lol. Interesting, but a bit scary. Terminator was one of the scariest movies that I have ever seen. I think our own creations can destroy us when they turn TOO smart. And not only that,  If you have to marry yourself a robot, all I gotta say, you’re a desperately hopeless romantic, have too much money to waste, and you’re not realistic.

  • All i gotta say is…ain’t no robot gonna handle all the complexities of a woman. Like you said, it will self-destruct.
    Hahaha… a very interesting post~~

  • lol, this post is ridiculous! It’s outrageous and stupid.

I fregin’ loved it. Good work.

  • LOL.  Maybe I am not that open-minded, but I think I’d rather be alone than with a robot.  I read this article about the same thing – how it will be common.  WTF?  No thanks.  Sorta creepy – reminds me of that movie I, Robot.  They’ll take over, decide they only want to date/marry other robots and start killing us off. lol.

  • This was very entertaining. A human relationship can not and will not Ever satisfy all of a person’s deepest needs, no matter how wonderful the relationship is. However, a robot is a robot, a pile of metal, and I’ll take my amazing man (with his faults) over that any day.

  • My current blog is the news article about this. I found it so hilarious!

  • Maybe it’s a hard for some Dutch guy to grasp but the Japanese, after generations of watching anime robot porn, will find having a robot lover perfectly normal. They will be happy that these robots aren’t 30 stories tall and have killer death rays and penchant for smashing highrises.

  • have you watched A.I.? its a pretty good movie.. you never know.. with our technology now.. probabaly not.. but sometimes in the future.. pretty sure they will have something… The project is already underway in japan (http://youtube.com/watch?v=091ugdiojEM&mode=related&search=) Why would you want attractive robot slaves anyways.. its not like you can do anything or want to do anything with them.. just for eye candy? would you be jealous if your bf had a hot robot slave girl for the same reason?? after all its just a robot.. But imagine that they really did make these robots that can do everything… what would they need us for..

  • Chobits. That anime is an animated version of this post.

Watch out!!!! Its reality coming to your door soon.

  • What “cognoscere9″ said heheh… check it out on youtube, it’s really disturbing, lol. Hilarious post, btw. I agree with most of it, mostly just because I don’t wanna be “saved” by Keanu Reeves.  The prospect of a resulting cult of Reevists, all worshipping “The One” as they chant “whoa”in a thundering monotonous drivel scares the poo/gems out of me.

  • This was hilarious!

  • Hahahha….robot lovers sound so kinky. It might be good for erm……practice…lolx. Very interesting post. Keep up the good work! But think about it….the robots might be pre-programed already to be slightly unpredictable…u noe…for the spark in the relationship.

  • well if people can use dildos and blow up dolls, i dont see how its too far off. these extremely “shy” people or maybe some would consider “sick” people wouldnt have a problem. in the end, everything taboo becomes justified as long as there is someone to say its ok. or as it gets popular.

i guess if you wanted to go even deeper, most people are like robots on an emotional level. its become routine enough to feign love and affection and whatever anyway, but ive gotta get off my soap box.. good post

    ren

  • How can a society be so perverse that sexual or emotional relations with a robot sounds attractive? People feel, we have emotions, and we think with intelligence that can only be simulated. How could a life with a being that has no emotions or opinions be favorable?

    I agree with your opinion

  • this is hilarious– you should consider writing professionally.

ilena holder— Rose Garden by Awe-Struck ebooks 10.17.07

  • scary… reminds me of that anime chobits, the main character falls in love with his robot (who btw looks like she’s 12)

  • all robot advancement scares the s*** out of me. labour robot advancement will put people out of jobs, and the “lover” robot idea is just ridiculous. people need to work to have human relationships and function in society, and have jobs. if we keep trying to make robots like this, we are negating all the future purpose in life for people, replacing ourselves with robots. if you have a robot to clean for you, work for you, make love to/for you…what will be the point of your life anymore? i mean come on people. robot advancement like this seems more like a signal of the apocalypse than progress. :

    -amy

  • LOL, this is just funny.

  • Blade Runner meets Deep Throat, huh.

  • I don’t like your robot-slave idea probably as much as you don’t like Mr. Netherlands’ robot-lover. What happens in every movie with robots? They take over! I don’t need a bunch of your hunky, gorgeous, man-bot slaves running around trying to put me in my place!

I’ll stick to microwave and toasters, thank you very much!

  • i found this very funny and enjoyable to read. you forgot the topic of sexually transmitted diseases. would they be on the decline if people had robot lovers? what about the prostitutes? they would eventually be out of jobs if people could just buy a lover. the job market right now is not good. we must save as many jobs as we can. say no to robot lovers and yes to prostitues.

  • The hookers union would never permit this.

  • The Japs are well on their way with the form they will take. Called “realdolls” they are the lates sex toy for lonely boys. Quite “lifelike in a waxen corpse sort of Madame Tuussauds sort of way. No conversaton but then, that is not what they are for at this juncture in history.

  • love ur post. i wouldnt mind havin attractive slave robots that cooked and cleaned for me. that would be freakin awesome!

  • haha – the fat jeans comment – haha

  • I want a male robot slave too! The guy in the Netherlands is a tad bit slow though, we already have somewhat life like robots that look like humans, made by the Japanese of corse. It would be pointless to be in a relationship with a robot because they can never feel emotions and whatnot. Conversation with a robot won’t be entirely limited because they should have artificial intelligence, meaning they will learn as they go, like humans. Here is some links to life like robots, I still get freaked out just thinking about it. They breathe air and they are going to start walking soon. Scary huh?

  • If they will make the robots I am thinking of…why not? The price will be only for the rich though.

  • there’s a short film about cyborgs that were rented and easily replaced as lovers.

  • I think if we (guys) are with a woman long enough, we become very close to being robots.

  • I don’t know about that guy’s prediction… falling in love with and marrying?  I can see how if some guy is just so desperate and out-of-luck and a lover-robot is his only way to get any, but to actually fall in love with something that has no emotions of its own…  I’ll pass too.

  • hahahaha  what a great funny post.  enjoyed it very much.  i think they already have few realistic robots in japan, well prototypes…

  • amusing dialouge btwn robot/human lovers. =p
but you’re right, as crazy as it sounds, our society is indeed in a
state of reaching so far for affection that we wold settle for
    artificial “love.”

    “iPod, i heart you dearly!”

  • there’s a science fiction novella called ‘Helen O’Loy’ (play on words of helen of alloy, like helen of troy but made of metal) about a man who creates a female robot that is so lifelife that no one would ever be able to tell it wasn’t a human being- and try as he might, he can’t help but fall in love with it.  I’m not saying that I would ever be able to fall in love with a robot, because I don’t think I could, but the whole point of talking about this is to raise the question- why not?  How are humans more than just mechanical beings, what makes us any different from a machine- the fact that we are made of carbon and not silicon?  Aren’t we “programmed” by what we learn and perceive throughout our lives?  Don’t we “compute” or “analyze” or “calculate” by thinking?  There are much deeper questions tied to loving robots than ‘ew people being attracted to an inanimate object is perverse.’

“I’m more turned off by the human that would have to resort to artificial intelligence for affection: the online-video game obsessed, socially-inept, Jabba-the-Huts[sic] who know everything there is to know about elves and orcs but couldn’t find their way out of a paper bag.”  It’s great being reduced to a stereotype, at least there are a couple people like me on earth to love the people described in said quote.

  • interesting view. Ever seen chobits? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chobits
Its all about love, humanoid robots, and things that happen when they interact with humans. In this case the robots can function both as companions and “labor-robots”
If you wanted your robot to think independently, I’m sure the AI settings could be changed so you dont wind up with a yes-robot.

  • The whole idea just creeps me out.

  • i would program my robot to answer only with animal noises.

me: honey, why is there war?
    robot gf: mooooooooooooooooooooo

  • The mechanics of the whole deal is where I am having to draw the line

  • robots shoot electric jizz son

  • ha that’s the idea in this anime called ‘Chobits’

but hey, if it feels like a human, thinks like a human, and fucks like a human…well close enough right?

  • I wouldn’t be able to have a serious relationship with a robot man, that’s for sure. However, I might not mind a robot toy to play with for those occasional lonely nights where I’m too lazy to take care of myself… Lol. He’d have to have an off button though, since I wouldn’t be able to kick him out of my house. ;P

  • I recently read in the newspaper, that they’ve made robot companions for kids. o_O;

  • Robot lovers would be kinda wierd…but i suppose having a legion of Hot women robots to feed me grapes and such would be pretty cool……..then again on second thought nevermind….I’ll take a real lady over a synthetic android anyday….

  • what if those future robots have their own way of thinking. I don’t deny that we would have to program them but what if those robots in the far far away future can actually program themselves and is not actually controlled by us. Then do you still consider that as a robot? or is it going to be a robot with its own sets of ideas. Then perhaps they wouldnt just say “ur sexy” even if ur ugly. Then would that be a better robot boyfriend for u?

I suppose, no matter how the world have changed, humans are just plainly lazy and greedy. We just want to over-rule the robots and make them slaves so we dont need to do the chores. I guess us as humans should just invent robots up to this standard and not over this, then all of us would be happy.

  • This is freakin hilarious…muahaha…at first I assumed you were being serious…haha, now I jusst think you’re silly…haha…I guess you look Femme-bot like hahaha….

  • interesting perspective lol

  • You know, I’m not convinced with your arguments. I mean, one level it’s conceivable that you could have a physically gratifying relationship with a robot. But more importantly I don’t see how being in a relationship with a robot would be different from say a relationship with a trophy spouse who doesn’t work. Sure the spouse uses your money, and at times may compliment you when perhaps you don’t deserve to be complimented, but this sort of thing happens in countless relationships every day. It doesn’t necessarily cheapen the experiences you have. For example, a mother might give her daughter money to buy her a mother’s day gift, but that gift still has sentimental significance for the mother. Take another example, there are times when a guy might compliment his girlfriend even though she might not look or feel great, but she appreciates it because she understands the intention behind the compliment. These work as motivators. Of course there are questions that still remain about the parallelism when the source of such actions and comments are robots, but I think that the advanced nature and possibilities of artificial intelligence at least require us to be somewhat more charitable to these scenarios. I however will always prefer the natural imperfections of humans.

  • i heard about this issue today while driving to schooll…

  • I wrote a story about this not too long ago. It was set in the ‘near-future’ in which the U.S. government tries to ban human-robot marriage and ultimately ends up failing.

Also, I would like to point out that even though robots in the Matrix looked like squids, people still might find them attractive. Just look at Japanese hentai. There are tentacled creatures involved in sex with people. It’s funny.

  • lol. i’d rather be a nun than have a robot lover. the guy is has serious problem man

  • Wow, random, I read that article too.

Think about this: In the 80′s only nerds used computers and knew about the internet.

So might we have the same development with these robo-lovers? will it become widespread enough that human to human relationships will become outdated?

    Hmm..

And honestly, I can totally see having a robot girlfriend. After some of my exes, It would be nice to not have to put up with being cheated on, or jealousy or whatever. I don’t think I could ever do it, but I can see the appeal.

  • lol interesting post indeed

  • interesting post! there is one episode abt this whole human + robot love on Futurama…it could happen but then again it all depends on us, human…intelligence creature! hmm… have a good day :)

  • It’s not so far off. In fact, there already are machine “lovers”. It’s called internet porn. And look at what happens to people after they’re addicted to porn for a long time- they end up hollow and confused about what love and desire is. The same will hold true for robot lovers.

  • Technically, you could simply program a robot to make decisions based on certain criteria and thus form it’s “own” opinions based on that criteria, and be programed to insult you or disagree with you if that is what you wanted.  Furthermore, one could make the case that these weak-willed control freaks that would need a robot are not that different from the robots themselves in that socially, they are not strong enough to assert thier own points of veiw.  All that said, I agree that “robots” (of either the synthetic or weak-willed human variety) lack a great deal of attractiveness, though this means that the only way to save the world from having to be saved by Keano Reeves is by befriending these people and helping them develop a backbone… the future may depend on it!

  • I’m way more afraid of this being the beginning of robots taking over the world.

  • hi ^_^

    hehe i live in netherlands
nd i read it in the newspaper.
I was like wtf!? the world
is coming to its end!! XD.

  • Anybody that’s ever seen the Futurama episode where Fry falls in love with robot Lucy Liu would surely know that human-robot love can’t work.  But I still think it would be cool to have one.

    Nice site.  Keep writing.

  • ( Ironiclly, I’ve found an anime that’s like that. Yes! Right on, girl! I also think that a guy shouldn’t BE perfect. They should be unique in their own way-special-and that’s why you’d love him. You do have good reasons. We shouldn’t fall in love for some programed… human-thingy. o_O I think they should design their robots into some other shape. Anything besides Humans… Gosh.

Very interesting post. No wonder it’s in the featured. :D )

  • LOL, I like the idea of a slave robot! Now that’s the only kind I’d want!

  • Who needs school when robots can just download programs and e-books via USB

  • I’m glad this book is in print again. Ive always loved it, and its even more relivant today:

    http://www.amazon.com/Silver-Metal-Lover-Tanith-Lee/dp/0553581279

  • eh…it would seem that guys think all girls can’t be trusted, are ho’s, liars, bitches, etc.  girls, on the other hand, seem to always think guys want to get into their pants, can’t be trusted, will cheat, will stare at other girls, etc.  in such an untrusting society, seems quite possible.

as to the matrix, the movie is a lot deeper than many legged robots (max efficiency, how else would you kill multiple humans at once without some sort of projectile?) and keanu reeves (admittedly, he is a pansy) -_-  the movie has a lot to do with the issue of free will vs predestination

btw, there’s somewhat a movie out there that touches on this subject (main character falls in love with robot girl, etc).  it’s a korean movie called natural city.

  • Falling in love with a robot? Disgusting. I totally agree.

    -jess

  • weeeird, but good point

  • wonderfully marvelous blog. i also read this article on live”science”.com. at first it frightened me until i realized how juvenile and worthless that man’s statements were. then i came to view it as accidentally humorous–perhaps a piece of dialogue edited out of napolean dynamite or something. what does still frighten me a bit is exactly what you were saying about substituting human relationships for robotic ones. some people are convinced of the relative simpicity of the human mind. these people have most likely spent all of their time either in a lab or reading (not that either of those things are bad in themselves–quite the opposite.). but without actual human contact and reflection upon it i could see how a person could view programmed reactivity as a sufficient subsitute for human reactivity. but to any of us that view things like research and literature as supplemental to our actual experiences rather than all we need, the complete falseness and absurdity of human-type relationships with artificial intelligence are flagrantly and unvoidably..well…artificial. it’s all very self-evident. lots of love and props for writing that. take care.

  • that guy needs to like find himself a firl friend… LoL  i see you point where you rather have a like a working robot rather then a robo friend…  holly wood really messy that for us…  such a terminator, AI, I Robot, Matrix, on and on…  if that is true int he movies, then we should not make them at all… since they will go hay wire and we become batteries for them…

  • If I had a sex robot, I would take it out on a nice date.  Go to a fancy restaurant, a movie, you know the typical.  Maybe lay in the back of my truck and look at the stars with the robot and talk about our life ambitions, how many kids we’d like to have, jobs, what we’d like to do when we grow old.

Then light some candles and incense, put on some slow baby making music and have some artificial alone time.  Then skip out early the next morning and not return any sex robot phone calls…

  • Honestly, I think trying to say that we’ll be able to come up with robots that “life-like” is giving people a LOT of credit.  The human brain is so complex, and our personalities and thoughts to complex, I don’t think humans can ever truly replicate that or even come close.  We still know so little about how we ourselves work… how are we going to make something else that works like it?

People have those creepy “real dolls” for sexual partners and I can see that (again, creepy, but still) but to fall in love with a robot?  I don’t think so.

  • One can sorta agree with you but then I’ve seen the poor basterds who need something like a robot-wife thing.

It’s only been guys in my experiance but I’ve heard of aunts of some name or anouther that can’t get a life to save their life and they could likely use a robot-husband thing. I agree with the opinion that the humans will turn into some nasty, fat, ugly peice of shit because the robot is programed to always like them and can’t figure a way of telling them without them going ballistic. allthough programing is allready getting to the point where the argument wouldn’t happen, learning algorithems allready exist and thus the robot could comeup with some good stuff that wasn’t in his original programing so he could say something like that and also not lie when he says that he wasn’t programed to say such things. As for me, a nice peice of eye-candy that would randomly dance around and generally act like a doofus would be all I’d want, sometimes you just need a cute girl to do silly shit and make you laugh.

  • Ah, you’re post made my day.

Reminded me sorta of a Lover I Don’t Have to Love kind of scenario.

Gotta agree with you…or is it disagree?

    -kat

  • I kind of conclude that if you have had a lover already and not run tests to check if they were mechanical on the inside (i.e. not biomechanical), that you could have indulged a robot and that there are millions or more already interacting and mingliung with us – all in doomed relationships, but that is so their programmers can find out without losing trust to a person how the individual they assert is their betrothed would become equally smitten, the robot is a probe and indulges the invidual how they so choose and all the data is extrapolated and informs the programmer who arrives like a knight in shining armour fully equipped and nothing short of totally insightful into your sense of the perfect mate and driven work-a-holic for your love….

….except we’re comparitively at the Furby end of robot production with this specific concept in mind.

Have you played that level on “MechWarrior” (or another game just like it), where you enter a robot factory? – creepy & sickening

  • ya

love is meant for boy girl

    not human robot

that is like falling in love with a toaster

    or a tv

    same thing

    all man made

to do what we tell them

so really the only robots we will ever have is salves

    unless we give them A.I

then that prob wont end good

so fall in love with a human

and save yourself from being blown to hell when you break up with a robot

  • Hmmm I was thinking about this the other day…the human race is so intertwined with technology that perhaps one day we will become more and more like robots. I mean evolution has to take place somehow. Are we less human than we were hundreds of years ago? Oxy tanks for lungs, defibulators for hearts, prothetics body parts, metal plates for bones, contact lenses for eyes are all things that keep the body alive if it’s beyond natural repair right? I wonder if eons from now we will fuse with technology like this. Perhaps I’m being a little to sci fi and weirding people out by now. But some food for thought nonetheless.

About this post…haha I know some women who are already in love with “robotic parts” because real men can’t do it any better. I never understood that, mechanics on my goods always creeped me out. That dude’s idea kinda reminds me of Gigolo Joe from the movie AI…

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=Yyqlhaybeo4

  • I don’t want any kind of life-like robots to exist at all. People are already too dependent on GPS navigators, IPods, and other such technologies. Make us any more dependent and we’ll be sheep ready for the slaughter!

  • I just want a robot woman with a bass boat and it’s a plus if she can clean fish. Send picture of the boat.

  • I liked reading this!

I can’t help but wonder what robot-human offspring would be like though.. :D

  • I remember a few years back there was big controversy over a Jerry Springer show that featured people in “interspecies relationships”, the PC way of saying bestiality. This tells me that there will definitely be at least a segment of the population willing to marry a robot.

That said, I highly doubt robot love will ever take off to the degree to threaten human relationships in that it doesn’t represent the highest state of love and is more akin to a master/slave relationship. One of the big joys of human relationships is that one “chooses” to love someone else and the other person “chooses” to love the other person as well. Few pleasures can compete with the feeling one has of having their love returned from the person they love. A robot has no free will so that feeling won’t really exist in a robot-human relationship.

They will also miss the magic (misery?)  of “The Chase”.

I’m sure society status quo will also play a part in reducing robot relationships as those involved will be seen as not being able to find a “real” human relationship.

  • ever seen that part of Animatrix, “The Renaissance” and stuff? God that is so creepy.

Anyways I read that article a few days ago and it creeps me out. I can’t figure how it is possible to fall in love with a machine! I love the psychotic unique wonderful crazy emotional wrecks that human beings are. How can you love a cold and lifeless machine who has no feelings for you?
He was even saying it’s not creepy to have SEX with a robot.

    Yeah. It is.
    Cold, lifeless, emotionless.
He was saying pedos could take out their strange sexual urges on young-looking robots? UM, EW? That isn’t going to HELP because a pedo will want a human reaction too! Plus…isn’t that saying that it’s RIGHT for him/her to be the way they are??

That guy is messed up in the head. I don’t ever want a life full of humanlike robots. Ever.

  • what about a SEX-slave robot? you could make one of those by duct-taping a dildo to your computer and have it run a chatbot.

speaking of chatbots and artificial intelligence:

    http://discovermagazine.com/2007/brain/i-chat-therefore-i-am/article_view?b_start:int=0&-C=

  • LMAo @ robot conversation…  I kinda agree with Ren, that some people are robot-like…. who knows what humans will be like in the centuries to come? I hope the passion doesn’t run out, have you seen the dead people on the 9-5 trains?

  • I don’t think robots will be good enough but I am pretty sure it’ll sell a bit. It tells about how lonely and desperate people are nowadays or how disappointed people are as results of bad relationships. Sad…

  • Robot’s and love making…?  That’s well as bad as well a lot of things that shouldn’t be mentioned ever.  Robot slaves on the other sounds cool but what if they end up with a robot keanu reeves becoming their hero, but more importantly I’m gonna go support your movement for world peace and go buy a happy meal.

  • Any robot is only a robot and never will be a human. Try to find right man for you. I am sure you will be more happy with him than with a lot of artificial lovers like sex toys or robots.

  • yes, i agree w/ u!! i want an entourage of hot male robots who cook and clean 4 me =]

  • I don’t think this of an issue in my lifetime. I’m only 23 years old – a bit of a socially inept individual, and loves a handful of video games- but I discovered that no game in the world beats the stimulae the company of my uh… friends have who are in fact fellow human beings.

But I imagine if the world created robots as “lovers” wouldn’t it be the same for women or men purchasing sex toys? If a robot like from the movie Bladerunner as human-like and as smart or even smarter, then robots would probably be treated as human beings (if we haven’t destroyed each other just yet). But modern human thinking would never go creating things greater than they are – unless its is mostly for destruction like mass weapons, but I’m not so sure about that too. I think we already had put our fears on so many things already. It would take a social, political, mental, spiritual revolution adding more sentient beings on Earth when the truth is they’re actually finding more ways to eliminate overpopulation.

  • …wtf? interesting blog
    really random.

  • That was so entertaining! I loved it and completely agree.

  • WEird?? anyway i think robots in furture will be used jobs people do today THAT are too dangerous and stuff, becuase if robots do all our jobs in future, the only job we’ll ever get is programmers and mechanics and thinkers cause we programme robots with knowledge we have presently and that is one thing robots dont have, unless in furture they make A.I s (artificial intelligence) that can think for us. Then other then that what else can we do? Sit around all day while robots do everything. Yeah it may sound nice but think about it, we will hardly move about, becuase in the furture there maybe chairs that you just have to sit on the whole day with a console to press to bring you where you want to go. What im trying to say is, are androids/ Any Robots good for us? Maybe? Maybe not. Sure there’ll be lots of advantages like robot gladiators and robot slaves and no aids but, the only question that everyone has at the back of their head at what ever they do, be it Napolean having wars for what? For his country and their good will (maybe not actually but i guess he did not think about it) and george bush when he invaded iraq (even if in the end there was’nt a weapon of mass destruction) and Osama who thinks hes doing things for his god which I REALLY think its not what his god wants. The things people do are always good for some one be it them selves and it shows all around us. Please comment.

  • Wouldnt technically doing a robot be just a more complex form of masterbation?
And i guess what the netherlands guy said, that the more shy guys, or psychological problems, or are just plain ugly or have unpleasant personalities that would benefit from it, would be the ones using it, well their inability to breed with a robot will contribute to a, i guess a sort of modern, homo sapien version of darwin’s natural selection.

So i guess its all good, and no smart people get hurt right?

  • entertaining post! :D

  • Oh yeah, not only sneeze candy, but poop chocolate fudge Ha! Good dialogue on the relationship…you’re

    prolly right on with that.

  • aaand the guy predicted that massachusetts would be the first state to approve human-robot marriage… whaaaaaa…?

gotta say though that i still love transformers.

  • you should Bicentennial Man starring Robin Williams. He plays a robot in that movie.

  • Yeah.  Robots would not make very appealing spouses.  What so wrong with knowing about elves?  I had a college roomate who at one time had learned Tolkien’s elfen language so well he could order from a menu with it.  I know very little about elves.  He is married and I haven’t even dated before.

  • to each their own..i’ll try almost anything once.

slry…it would be sad. we are forgetting

that we seek love on a daily basis..from each other.

  • I think it’s going to be a long while before human-robot sexual interaction (unless you consider those disgusting looking motorized body parts to be robots) but human-robot emotional connection has been well documented for well over a decade now…

    http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/071001/emotional_robots.html?.v=2

It still feels like robots will fill that pet role more than a companion role, but then we’re never had anything that was capable of human conversation either. When that becomes possible on robots (or computers), there might be an interesting leap in human-machine connection. Just food for thought.

  • oh gosh, I do not want a robot girlfriend.  you like someone for their personality…which I’m thinking we are nowhere near programming a robot to that point.
I’ll stick to humans, thank you lol

  • Amazing haha, made me laugh.
Don’t worry, we probably allready be dead before it’s time for robot lovin ;)

  • i duno about LOVE robots but labor robots i like…if robots can start providing the lower needs of humans and support us so we wouldnt have to work, we, as human beings, can get to teh matter at hand, being more creative creatures and improving our scientific research and really start looking at our surroundings and in ourselves and contemplating teh meaning of our lives…rather than having to work and instead viewing ourselves as more of a valuable depleting workable resource stuck forever in teh corporate and business life.

with our full attention on living life and making new discoveries, progress will speed up 10x if not more!!!

yes DOWN WITH LOVE BOTS…up with labor bots!!!!! hehee =)

  • Haha I love this post and I completely agree with you!

  • ew robot lovers. they could turn against us like in that movie “I Robot”. that was a scary movie, i was all “but we have robot vacuum cleaners and all, what then??”

    but for practice, maybe.

  • browsing.

that is bizarre and it true we program it to feel like human beings.

  • as long as people continue to lie to themselves they can fall in love with anything . from robots to a genocidal president …

  • Best Xanga site out there.  Awesome lay-out, witty content and you appear to be pretty hot.  Also, I’m definitely down some robot sex.  Why not, right?  Anything new and different is good.  It’d be like the first time I was with an Asian chick or a really tall chick.

  • What did you think of the film AI with HaleyJoel Osment?

  • I’m surprised that you insist that orc loving elvish speaking nerds would be the only ones interested in having such companions. I would think most men would be interested in having a sex partner if it meant no emotional repercussions.

  • Have you ever read Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?  That happens in that book…maybe that’s what that guy was talking about?

  • this post is both insightful and hilarious!

  • I’m well up for some robot loving!

It’d be an amazing conversation piece for down the pub haha

  • LOL, I loved your description of the robot slaves! That would be NICE!!! And just what a robot was meant for. I hate to cook. I hate to clean. I would love one of those! But I wouldn’t want a lover robot. Sure I’m shy, sure I don’t talk to guys or go out on dates, partly for that reason, but that doesn’t mean I’d want a robot. Man, I’d be the one giving up the money, as you said. I’d have to dress the thing… well, at least it wouldn’t need food. But still. I mean, wouldn’t it feel fake to have sex with one of them? I don’t want to think about that. They’d have to make it so real that it actually has body heat for me too because I’m always cold. But, it just wouldn’t feel real. Thanks, but no thanks. I’ll just curl up with a book and a warm blanket instead, thank you very much! lol…

  • If you’re interested, check out “The Age of Spiritual Machines” by Ray Kurzweil.  He has a similar theory, but it’s a little more complex than you are making it.  It’s not that the robots will be programmed to love you and compliment you…they will have evolved to the point that they are capable of thought, reasoning, and emotion.  Now, he doesn’t actually expect it to be this way for a while.  I can’t say I believe that robots will take over a la “The Matrix,” but it is hard to deny that they are advancing, and it is possible that they could reach the point of sentience.

  • Eh… the Dutch are a bunch of perverts anyways.

  • Too funny!

  • Haven’t seen this mentioned but there’s this thing called the RealDoll made by former makers of Hollywood special effects mannequins. Its basically the most expensive and customizable sex doll ever and comes in male, female, and transsexual. All it lacks is the whole computer chip and it would be the robot you’re talking about.

So yeah… we’re halfway there. good news for some of the commenters. :)

  • I would also pass on a robot lover, but I’m sure some sicko somewhere (including the developers/scientists) will seriously find them robots attractive . . .

  • Hello!

Thats fnny, you think just like me lmfao.

    That whole robot thing…..Perfect.

    Comment back if you can

    ~Tripp

  • hmm, I disagree.

I think this robot idea will be extremely successful.

People project their own ideas on their lover anyways.

I think it’s more perverted to control a person than a robot.

  • hey sexy e-mail me at                     j_oglesby@yahoo.com

  • I guess the next step would be to create robots that are so life like that no one could tell the difference. Then I might call it true love, but probably not.

  • I don’t think in the near future that those kinds of robots will exist. Maybe in the far future, robots can become so real that you cannot tell it from a human and the line between humans and robots disappear. The robot would actually have emotions and mean what they say, not what is programmed into them. There is a movie called Bicentennial Man with Robin Williams about a robot that gradually each part of him became human while falling in love with a human and in the end people accepted him as human.

  • I can tell you’ve really thought this one through.

And I really think that nerdy computer programers with no social skills should not be allowed to find love until they get it together.  A robot lover would only make their way of living alright.

  • hmmmmmm

  • Hello Ms. Sylvia,
You made your site so simple yet elegant. The pictures are a nice touch. I see that you have a wide variety of  observations here!
I like to write articles about God and religion on my site to help people to really get to know God, especially in these troubled times. 14 When the good news about the kingdom has been preached all over the world and told to all nations, the end will come. (Matthew 24:14) (CEV) I hope you get a chance to look at them.

  • i totally agree with you, and with xxtighty_whiteyxx’s comment:

“How can a society be so perverse that sexual or emotional relations with a robot sounds attractive? People feel, we have emotions, and we think with intelligence that can only be simulated. How could a life with a being that has no emotions or opinions be favorable?”

    amen.

  • the key to world peace isn’t a happy meal …. it’s personal pan pizza, no more arguments about who gets the last slice and no more compromises about toppings (dammit I want anchovies and onions …).

In order for robots to reach that level of sophistication, you need to define what love is … machine is stupid and how realistic its interaction with people will depend on its progamming. If human can’t define what love is unambiguously and trust me we can’t even after a millenia of cheesy rock ballads, sappy poetry, syrupy romance tragedies and boring ass philosophical treatises … there is no way a robot can ever be anything more than a bad simulation of a human or worse just another latest sex gadget for the socially inept.

  • this is very very funny

  • 140 comments and no recs? What are people thinking?

  • Just a thought… if the robot self-destructed, wouldn’t that deny the woman her vengance for the lousy relationship?  That would be like a guy jumping off a bridge because he got dumped.  Robots are so emo!
